What We Don’t Like About Akamai Page Integrity Manager

Like many competitors, Akamai’s Page Integrity Manager mainly lists allows, and blocks scripts based on past intelligence and known issues. While this provides some protection, it lacks real-time AI-driven compliance and security automation, where MIA excels.

Akamai boasts behavioral detection technology, similar to MIA. However, while both tools monitor scripts in real-time, Akamai only alerts merchants to potential threats. MIA alerts and can automatically restrict scripts based on compliance and security policies, ensuring threats are mitigated before damage occurs.

Akamai also promotes its mitigation feature, which states that malicious JavaScript is immediately restricted from accessing and exfiltrating sensitive data on protected pages with one click. However, what this 'easy click' entails is unclear, and it seems that Akamai still requires user intervention before scripts are blocked. MIA does not require this additional step—it enforces security automatically.

Akamai does offer a free tier, but only as an add-on for existing customers. This tier limits usage to 1M Beacons/page views per month, restricting protection to only the most critical pages (such as payment). Additionally, there is no self-serve option—you must contact their sales team to gain access.

Unlike Akamai, MIA is designed to automate PCI compliance for SAQ A merchants by monitoring scripts, detecting unauthorized changes, and enforcing security policies. This helps businesses stay compliant without requiring additional tools or extensive manual reporting.

MIA also retains a history of script activity for compliance validation and security audits, updating AI and large language models (LLMs) in real time to continuously improve its detection mechanisms.
